The People’s Passion on Radio 4 this Easter - Sing it with Passion

Britain is about to be hit by a singing revolution... and you can be part of it.
As part of The BBC People's Passion, the BBC has commissioned a brand new choral work which will be performed by choirs across the country at Easter 2012. This nationwide premiere will unite singers in a moment of national harmony to perform this stunning new work with music composed by Sasha Johnson Manning and lyrics by the poet Michael Symmons Roberts. The People's Passion, to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in Holy Week 2012, looks at modern life in cathedrals across the land in five new dramas, documentaries and specially commissioned choral music.

With Cathedrals still dominating Britain’s cities – once symbols of temporal power, technological wonder and musical heritage – The People’s Passion explores what they mean to us today.

BBC Radio 4 would like to invite YOUR choir to sing a brand new piece of music this Easter. The People's Passion, by Manchester Carols composer, Sasha Johnson Manning, with lyrics by award winning playwright, Michael Symmons Roberts, is a stunning new work suitable for choirs of a variety of sizes, styles and abilities.

The BBC has made all the resources you need available on The People's Passion Website including sheet music, MP3 recordings and backing tracks. You can also keep the singing world up to date using Radio 4's Facebook page and Twitter #bbcpeoplespassion.

The aim of The People’s Passion is to encourage choirs of all kinds to perform the same new music in the same week. BBC Local Radio will follow some choirs in their area as they prepare for Easter, linking features about their choirs and their own local Cathedrals to The People's Passion website.
