National Association of Choirs - Services

Choirs (when accepted into membership) are assigned to geographic sections (groups) dependant on area/location of choir. Active groups have their own local organisation headed by a committee - Annually elected from their choir representatives from the group.
These group committee members, together with assigned representatives from any member choir are in turn members of the National Association of Choirs Steering Group which meets three times a year to give direction to the Executive Officers and the NAC. (For dates of these meetings please use the buttons on the navigation toolbar in the 'Events' section.
At the NAC's Annual General Meeting the members elect Officers to run the day-to-day business and promulgate proposals and plans for the future. These Officers report to the Steering Group from which they obtain guidance and approval for future actions.
- At group level there are regular meetings for choirs in their area; workshops, courses and concerts are all arranged on your behalf. Inter – Choir links and exchanges are encouraged.
- There is a Year Book and a periodical News Magazine. The Year Book is our Annual Report and Directory, copies are available priced at £5.00 inc p&p. (FREE to members). The Magazine – ‘News & Views’ is a forum for the exchange of information between choirs, a medium for disseminating guidance notes, and the place to advertise your excess music, redundant uniforms, seek exchanges and a wealth of other worthy and useable information both from the Officers and Member Choirs.
- There is a Music Advisory Service to help Choirs and to liaise with Publishers and Distributors of Music. A discount scheme for the purchase of Music is also available through certain publishers. There is also a Music Reviews and Festival Information section offering reviews of new music and up to date information on festivals and competitions. Advice is available about Music Festivals both in the UK and abroad.
- There is a Loan of Music Scheme. This is for Choirs enabling them to BORROW music from each other or from the NAC Library. Further details are in the "members only" section or direct from the NAC Music & Festivals Officer, Eric Cooper
- There are links to a wide range of Suppliers of Services. Many of these suppliers give discounts to members of the association.
- Access (restricted to members) to FREE legal advice on choral related matters and issues through the association legal advisor.
- Advice on gaining Charitable Status, Charitable Banking, Rules and Constitutions and other Charity related matters. Assistance is given with the Development of Choir Rules and with Charity Status Applications for which choirs must have an approved set of Rules and Constitution.
- Access (restricted to members only) to a full and comprehensive section of advice sheets from PRS to Health and Safety.
- The National Association of Choirs is also a member of The Ongoing National Singing Inter - organisational Liaison Committee (TONSIL). This is the forum for discussing promotion of the traditional choral art and is comprised of BFYC, Making Music, SfP, CMS etc. The British and International Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech and the NAC are represented at each others conferences and a good working relationship is maintained.
The NAC owns two banner stands, size about 2400mm x 90mm when erected. The stands are free-standing and may be placed anywhere convenient. Choirs and Groups who wish to borrow a stand for publicity purposes – for a concert, exhibition, or local event – may do so on application to Celia Johns AT LEAST ONE MONTH in advance of the event. The Association will bear the cost of transporting the stand by courier to the Choir/Group’s nominated representative in time for the event. The Choir/Group must arrange and pay for the stand to be returned by courier as soon after the event as possible, and in any case within one week of the event. Full instructions as to which courier to use will be provided to the borrowers.
