Beware of hacked emails! - Mon 23 Jul 2018

We have been informed that a choir who is shortly going on tour has had their final payment to the tour company intercepted and diverted away from the proper destination. This was done by the email from the tour company (correctly requesting the payment) being hacked, and an addendum put on the bottom to the effect that the tour company had recently changed their bank, and giving amended bank details to which payment should be sent. Needless to say the amended details belonged to the hacker. Sadly the payment was made, in good faith, to the incorrect bank.

All avenues are being pursued to try and recover the money and bring the hacker to justice. The choir concerned wished to bring this to the attention of other choirs, and to warn them to check in all cases where there is a query about bank details being altered.
